Why Isn't Threads Working? Common Issues + Fixes

Threads acting up usually falls into one of a handful of categories. Work through these roughly in order — most issues resolve at step one or two.

1. Check if it's Threads, not you

Before anything else, check whether it's a wider outage. Meta's platforms (Threads, Instagram, Facebook) share infrastructure, so if Instagram is also acting strange, it's very likely a Meta-side issue rather than anything on your end — and the fix is simply to wait.

2. Force-close and reopen the app

Sounds obvious, but it resolves a surprising share of "posts won't send" and "feed won't load" issues. On iOS, swipe up and close Threads from the app switcher; on Android, use recent apps. Reopen and try again.

3. Check your connection

Threads can behave inconsistently on weak wifi or spotty mobile data — posts appear to hang, images fail to upload, or the feed shows stale content. Switching between wifi and mobile data (or toggling airplane mode on/off) often resolves it faster than waiting.

4. Update the app

An outdated version of the Threads app is a common, easy-to-miss cause of bugs that were already fixed upstream. Check your app store for a pending update.

5. Log out and back in

If posts are visible to others but not updating for you, or your feed looks frozen, a full log-out/log-in cycle refreshes your session and often clears whatever cached state is causing the problem.

6. Clear the app cache (Android) or offload the app (iOS)

For persistent issues that survive a restart, clearing cached data forces the app to rebuild its local state from scratch. On Android: Settings → Apps → Threads → Storage → Clear Cache. On iOS: Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Threads → Offload App (this preserves your login and data, just clears local cache).
